The World Health Organization estimates that by 2030 Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) will be the leading cause of death globally. Tobacco use is a major risk factor in the development of NCDs, every year 8 million people die globally due to tobacco use and if not addressed this could prove a huge challenge for health sectors across the continent. For example, it is estimated that by 2025, there will be 300,000 new smokers in Zambia. While the prevalence of tobacco use has been decreasing globally there has been an increase on the African continent and the situation needs addressing.
