Africa CDC: Strengthening Continental Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) and Social Behaviour Change (SBC) Architecture: Preparing Communities for the Next Pandemic

Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) is a critical component of public health emergency preparedness and response. In May 2020, at the height of COVID-19, the Africa CDC together with its Member States, WHO and key partners established the Public Health Risk Communication and Community Engagement Community of Practice for Africa (PH-RCCE-CoPA) to strengthen the capacity of Member States and institutionalize RCCE and the evolving role of Social Behaviour Change (SBC) for public health emergencies in Africa.

Africa CDC will organize a side event during the Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA) 2023 in Lusaka, Zambia. This will serve as an advocacy platform to strengthen RCCE efforts, scale up knowledge exchange, lessons learned, and share best practices in Africa. The event will advance the New Public Health Order agenda by advocating for increased domestic resources and investments in a skilled workforce in the RCCE and SBC realm in ensuring community ownership of public health interventions during outbreaks. The side event aims to raise awareness, promote resource allocation, and facilitate knowledge sharing to enhance public health emergency preparedness and response across the continent.
