Fred Swaniker is on a mission to bring better leadership to Africa and the world. He leads the African Leadership Group - an ecosystem of organizations that are catalyzing a new era of ethical, entrepreneurial and digital leaders in Africa. Over the past two decades, he has founded and led the pre-university African Leadership Academy, African Leadership University, African Leadership Network, and ALX —a career accelerator training over 200,000 young leaders with technology and leadership skills, with a goal to develop 3-5 million digital leaders by the next decade.
This year Fred launched Sand Technologies, a global technology services company headquartered in the USA with engineers across Silicon Valley, France, the United Kingdom, Romania and various emerging markets. Specializing in industrial AI, Sand technologies is helping companies develop world class technology products, build great technology teams, and deliver outstanding customer experiences.
Fred is passionate about tackling Africa's greatest challenges and opportunities, and is currently working on a transformative project through Sand Technologies, to digitize rural healthcare across various communities on the continent. He envisions a tomorrow where communities leverage technology to access primary healthcare facilities.
Fred previously worked as a McKinsey consultant before earning an MBA from Stanford and becoming an entrepreneur. He is an Echoing Green Fellow; Aspen Institute Fellow; and was recognized as one of TIME Magazine’s most influential people of 2019. He holds honorary doctorate degrees from Macalester College, Middlebury College and Nelson Mandela University.
