Otto Nzapfurundi Chabikuli

Otto Chabikuli, MD, is an African scholar and leader in global health with a unique ability to connect clinical services, teaching, research, and management in the public, private and not for profit sectors. 

Dr Chabikuli currently serves as FHI 360’s Regional Director for Eastern and Southern Africa, member of the Global Fund’s Technical Review Panel, and adjunct Associate Professor at Howard University’s MPH program in Washington DC where he teaches the Global Health module in the MPH graduate program. Prior to joining FHI 360, Dr Chabikuli held various academic positions at the University of Limpopo, South Africa; University of the Witwatersrand’s School of Public Health, South Africa; University of Pretoria’s Department of Family Medicine, South Africa; and the Protestant University of Congo, DR Congo.

Dr Chabikuli has extensive experience implementing infectious disease control programs, particularly HIV and TB programs, and health services management in a portfolio of 18 countries. He has a deep understanding of health systems challenges and the limits of service delivery platform in Africa. 

In the portfolio he manages, FHI 360 integrates vertical disease control programs into routine service delivery at health facilities and at community level, the last mile. Dr Chabikuli engages actively his team in generating and sharing scientific evidence through research, guiding policy development/updates, and building the capacity of providers.
