Dr. Akataobi is a FETP-trained Epidemiologist with 14 years of substantial experience in One Health, infectious diseases, health workforce development, emergency preparedness and response, and general health system strengthening. Having worked to support the prevention, detection, and control of outbreaks due to infectious diseases including Polio, Measles, Cerebrospinal Meningitis, Cholera, Ebola, H5N1, and COVID-19 at district, state, and national levels in Nigeria for over a decade, Dr. Akataobi current works with the Africa CDC Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Centre at the management level as the Senior Technical Officer. Prior to this, Dr. Akataobi held several in-country positions in Nigeria including Deputy Technical Lead-Presidential Taskforce (PTF) on COVID-19, Assistant Director-Epidemiology Unit, Federal Department of Veterinary and Pest Control Services and Field Coordinator and Lead, Workforce Development and later, Measles project at the Africa Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET). A fellow of the US-CDC IMPACT program and FETP mentor, Dr. Akataobi is well-published in peer review journals.
