For over 25 years, Dr James Guwani has played an active role in the HIV/AIDS response at the country, regional and Global Level. For the last 20 years he has served in various position within UNAIDS in Zambia, Guyana, Geneva, Uganda, South Africa and Ethiopia. He currently serves as the Special Advisor on Community Health Programme within the Office of the Director General, Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Prior to his Secondment to Africa CDC, Dr Guwani was the Director for the UNAIDS Caribbean Sub-Regional Office based in Kingston Jamaica. He worked closely with Countries in the Caribbean to strengthen national capacities for HIV service delivery and support.
James holds a Doctorate degree from the Pennsylvania State University (US), an MPH from The Ohio University (US), a MA from the University of Oslo (Norway) and a BA from the University of Ghana (Ghana).
