The COVID-19 pandemic led to significant loss of lives and livelihoods in Africa. In July 2022, Africa CDC published the “Continental Framework for Strengthening Mortality Surveillance Systems in Africa”. While the framework was conceptualized before the pandemic, it published at a most opportune time when the demand surged for accurate and timely data on deaths and causes of death for public health decisions and actions.
