The session discusses the pressing need to review the role, nature, purpose of health systems and the health workforce in meeting universal healthcare coverage (UHC) and sustainable development goals (SDG). It will pay particular attention to questions regarding how we teach, train, and build capacities that are fit-for-purpose and fit-for-practice to lead health systems in the middle east and north Africa (MENA). The side-event will draw on the perspectives of global health architects and discuss the essential global health system leadership traits in re-building resilient health systems and. It will also share their experiences about overcoming long-standing health system barriers and addressing health inequalities to scale-up UHC. In doing so the session will encourage whole system approaches that can successfully align with a new public health order.
