Infectious diseases remain the leading cause of death in sub-Saharan Africa, largely from pathogens that are not common or prioritized by countries on other continents. Local solutions are paramount to ensure outbreaks are rapidly contained so that they don’t reach epidemic levels, and that communities have consistent quality, comprehensive healthcare available at all times. The panel will discuss how regional partnerships and collaboration have been key to strengthening public health institutions and bolstering the public health workforce across Africa, accelerating three of the pillars of the New Public Health Order. We will discuss the central role integrated surveillance systems and cross-border / regional collaboration has in ensuring disease-agnostic, resilient health systems.
